Do good, cease to do evil

God is love.
We hear that a lot. And it is true. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Probably the most quoted scripture in the Bible.
But it is also true that God is a just God and in his justice he has to be true to himself. He cannot be a part with sin.
There is another emotion that I want to talk about that God displays. Proverbs 6:16 “These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.”
Now, if we consider this proverb carefully and understand what he is saying then we understand that God is serious about sin and the affects it has on his creation, mankind.
So if we believe there is a God and he is serious, then there is a response that God has called for. This is why a lot of people deny there is a God. Our country has broken the rules on so many fronts. “Hands that shed innocent blood” would definitely include abortion. So you can see that God hates abortion. “A false witness who speaks lies” would include many people including most of our politicians, unfortunately. “Feet that are swift in running to evil”, there is a lot of that going on.

We don’t want to be involved in any of the things that God hates.
I believe that God has provided an answer for us. He has given us Jesus to lift us out of the sin that so easily ensnares us.
Because it is sin working in us as Paul said so well in Romans 7:19-21 “For the good I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.”
We are all lost without Jesus because of this sin living in us. There is hope for all of us. And the hope is only in Jesus Christ, our savior and deliverer.
So the hate God has for sin is changed by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ into love. We however, should hate sin as much as God does, but the sinner we need to love like God does us. The answer for the world is not condemnation because they are evil, but love because God first loves us.
Do good then and cease to do evil.
