Dangberg toy and Christmas display this weekend

Staff Reports

The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park invites the public to Home Ranch for the Holidays, a special exhibit of historic toys, games and Christmas decorations from the 1860s through the 1940s.

The exhibit is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, free for children 16 and younger, and free for members of the Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch nonprofit. Reservations are not needed.

“The holiday exhibit is always a great way to finish off the year at the park,” said curator Mark Jensen. “The toys and decorations are a fun way to remember the Dangbergs and celebrate what the park is and will become.”

The exhibit displays board and card games from the 1870s and 1880s that were played with by Fred Dangberg, Jr., and his siblings.

A variety of dolls, handmade doll clothing and doll accessories will be shown, as well as toys, books and games from 1900 to 1945.

There are also numerous toys enjoyed by Dangberg’s five children and grandson from the 1910s through the 1940s. These include a small wood-burning cook stove, a child’s drop-front desk and a miniature tea cart.
