Choir looking for a new director
April 23, 2013
The Chorus of the Comstock, a men’s barbershop-style chorus, has been performing in the Carson City/Carson Valley area for over 35 years. It is a member chorus of the Barbershop Harmony Society based in Nashville. This service organization has been the host of many entertaining shows, provided skilled singers to numerous community events and has delivered several hundred singing valentines to love-struck individuals over the years.
This nonprofit organization raises funds through their shows, singing telegrams and more in order to provide scholarships for many of our community’s students and teachers, enabling them to attend the society’s Harmony University and Directors Schools. We have sponsored several quartets from area high schools to go to district and regional competitions and have been supporters of the society’s annual Youth In Harmony Camp near Placerville, Calif.
The Chorus of the Comstock is at a critical point in its existence and needs your help. Because of job situations, we need a new musical director. We are seeking any qualified man or woman who shares our love of music and is willing to direct weekly rehearsals and any shows or singing gigs performed throughout the year. Without a director, our membership has declined, yet there are still dedicated members hoping to rekindle and share the love of their hobby through a membership drive. Our coffers have dwindled because we were unable to put on an annual show last year, but we are still willing to pay a director’s expenses and negotiate a possible salary. Anyone interested in leading this group may request more info by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Weekly rehearsals are an outlet for a-cappella music lovers from Bridgeport to Fernley. Though attendance is down, we are still meeting every week because we “just love to sing.” Any men interested in singing are encouraged to join our Thursday rehearsals, 7-9:30 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 901 Beverly Drive, in Carson City.
Ted Nagel is a Gardnerville resident and a member of the Chorus of the Comstock.
