Children's chalk art at the Gardnerville July Fourth celebration.

The first Yankee Doodle Chalk Artfest was held during the 4th of July celebration at Gardnerville’s Heritage Park. Families with young children enjoyed doodling in the free Fun Zone. The Best in Show and first in the adult category was awarded to Nancy Bargman of Minden. Second place in the adult category was Vanessa Littrell and Sasha Littrell of Gardnerville. Savanna Harrington of Gardnerville received first place in the youth category.

The Chalk Artfest was sponsored by Carson Valley Arts Council and East Fork Gallery with support from Walmart and Meeks Lumber. Special thanks goes to the Town of Gardnerville, Main Street Gardnerville and our sponsors, volunteers and participants for helping us kick off the first Chalk Artfest in the Carson Valley.

The Carson Valley Arts Council’s goals include creating an environmentally healthy, multifunctional visual and performing arts center and providing cultural events and education experiences in our community in the five disciplines: visual, literary, music, dance and performance.

CVAC hopes all Carson Valley residents will get involved in one or more of CVAC’s upcoming events, like the Beans, Brews and Blues on July 27 in Genoa or become a “Friend” and Patron of the Arts in Carson Valley. Please visit our website for more information/tickets or Friend us on Facebook.

Help CVAC reach our vision, “a community united and inspired by the arts.”
