Carson Valley FFA competes in state convention
April 17, 2012
The Carson Valley FFA chapter had a successful week during the Nevada FFA State Convention March 21-24 on the UNR campus. FFA is an agricultural and leadership-based national organization for high school students. State Convention is held once a year. It is an opportunity for Nevada FFA members to meet other FFA members from all over the state, and compete in Career Development Events (CDE’s). CDE’s are different areas of interest that FFA members study, practice, and compete in.
During this year’s FFA State Convention, the Carson Valley Chapter was represented by over 30 members, and brought home several first and second place plaques. First place awards were presented to the following Carson Valley teams: Nursery Landscape (Kate Turner, Merecedes English, Maria Cuevo, and Paige Dallas), Floriculture (Amber Lee, Holly Kerrigan, Kelly Jacobson, and Unique Davis), and Dairy Judging (Abigail Chitwood, Kylen Flannagan, Cheyenne Bidart, and Anna Lekumberry). Each of these teams will be competing at Nationals in Indianapolis in October. Individual awards went to Abigail Chitwood, who placed first in both Dairy Evaluation and Job Interview; Cheyenne Bidart, who placed second in Dairy Evaluation; Kate Turner, who placed second in Nursery Landscape; Nicole Pupich, who placed third in Horse Evaluation; and Ashley Kale, who placed second in Poultry Evaluation. Abigail Chitwood also received Gold First Place in Proficiency, which earned her $250. The Poultry Judging and Natural Resource teams both received second place awards.
One last result coming from the Carson Valley FFA Chapter is Kylen Flannagan, who was elected as the 2012-2013 Nevada State FFA Reporter. She will be heading to Carson City with her other FFA state officers for training known as Blast Off.
