Give the gift of life

I’d like to suggest a New Year’s resolution that benefits others, it’s free, it’s done only three times a year and takes less than an hour. Become a blood donor. Blood cannot be purchased, but is needed daily by many. Unexpected tragedies increase the need for blood. The pint given helps three lives. Also you get a report for our cholesterol, iron, blood pressure, and the type of blood you have. It’s a simple safe and quick procedure. Don’t let the needle scare you. There are blood drives throughout the area year around.

Check the local newspaper or call United Blood Services for locations near by at 775-785-6648.

I’m coordinating a blood drive 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Pulse Fitness. I would be happy to scheduled your appointment. If Saturday isn’t a good day, there’s a drive today at Smith’s from noon until 4:15 p.m.

Please go online at to schedule. Completing the health history the day of your appointment will save you time. Go online, complete, print and bring to the appointment. Don’t forget to eat before the appointment, bring identification, drink plenty of water.

Men donate less than women. Let’s change that this year.

Thank you in advance. Start the new year with a positive, beneficial, rewarding act of kindness, and then continue it through the new year. Happy New Year to all.
