Fire near historic Bodie slows down

A fire burning near Bodie slowed its expansion on Wednesday, allowing firefighters to complete a line more than two-thirds around it.

While fire engines and dozers continue to protect the historic mining town south of Bridgeport, the size of the Spring Peak fire was revised down to 14,230 acres due to better mapping.

At its height, the fire came to within three miles of Bodie, which remains closed as does the entry road, to all but emergency traffic.

One minor injury was reported on the fire, Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center Spokesman Mark Struble said.
