The RC Morning Report for May 10

Stateline rolls snake eyes in March

Stateline casino’s winning streak came to a screeching halt in March, dropping 10.95 percent compared to the same month in 2012, according to figures released this morning by the Gaming Control Board. The chief source of Douglas County gaming revenue fell to $11.34 million, compared to $12.73 million in March 2012. With only one quarter left in the fiscal year, that drop took a bite out of the total win for the year. However, Stateline’s still running 3.8 percent ahead with $168 million collected since July 1. The Carson Valley Area, which includes the East Fork Township and Carson City, posted a 2.02 percent decrease to $8.2 million for the year.

Valley graduations

More than 50 Carson Valley students will be graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno, next weekend. The university released the list this morning, which includes 30 Gardnerville residents, two Genoans and 20 Minden residents. Newly minted Phd., Johnathan M. Kendler, of Gardnerville tops the list with the most advanced degree. There are also seven folks receiving master’s degrees. We’ll publish the list on Wednesday. Graduation is May 17-18. Western Nevada College graduation is May 20, and Douglas High School graduation is May 31.

Better than a half inch this week

We got a little more rain on Thursday, bringing the total for Genoa to .54 inches of rain from this storm, which is pretty good for May. It’s going to take a lot more than that to make up for the dismal precipitation since Jan. 1.

Warming up fast

Expect the beginning of some pretty warm days with the high today getting to 80 degrees under sunny skies. We could see a high temperature of 86 degrees on Mother’s Day. It’s forecast to cool off a little bit next week, but there’s no sign of moisture in the forecast through Thursday.
