Celeste Santens identified as pedestrian killed in Highway 50 accident

A 27-year-old Carson City woman was identified as the victim in a fatal pedestrian accident in the capital on Sunday night.

Celeste Santens was killed 11 p.m. St. Patrick’s Day on Highway 50 near Airport Road.

She was struck and killed by a black 1999 Ford Expedition as she attempted to walk across the four-lane highway, according to NHP trooper Chuck Allen.

The driver of the Expedition, 48-year-old Cynthia A. Munroe of Dayton, fled the crash scene and was located a short time later in Dayton.

She submitted to a voluntary blood draw before being booked into the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility for leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death-a felony-as well as operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Her total bail was $10,000, and she posted bond and was released from jail early Monday morning.

Witnesses to the crash, or anyone with additional information, are asked to contact Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team at or (775) 689-4623 regarding case No. NHP-130317065.
