Defining socialism

A word to one William Barwig. You obviously don’t know the definition of the word “Socialism.” Socialism is a philosophy in which the ownership and operation of the means of production and distribution is by society or the community rather than private individuals, with all members of the society or the community sharing in the works or the products. This is not a description of the United States government today. Rather, the stench you smell, Mr. Barwig, is that of the extreme radical right-wing Libertarians of the Tea Party who have hijacked your Republican Party, so that the goal of their financial backers, the corporate crooks, liars and cheats, and Supreme Court shills is to weaken or eliminate the powers of the state and maximizing the role of the individual and free will.

What once was a party that differed from the philosophies of the Democrats, but was willing to compromise and put the good of the nation before everything else, has now become a dangerous, repressive, and regressive force, whose only goal is to demolish the tremendous success of New Deal policies that have successfully carried us through the Great Depression and created the greatest economic growth the U.S. has known in the last 70 years. Had we not had Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, it is my belief that this current Great Recession would have been a great, great Depression. If mainstream Republicans allow this radical group, funded by the likes of the billionaire Koch Brothers, the future of our country is in jeopardy. Those of us who do not want to return to the days of the Gilded Age of the late 19th Century, when we had a great disparity between the 99 percent of the poor, and the 1 percent of the very rich, see the neo-radical ultra right-wing Republicans as a threat to our existence. They are truly the enemy from within who would dismantle what is left of the middle class and create a plutocracy that would destroy the gains made in the last century. They seem to be racists, bigots, misogynists, and would create a religious theocracy of Evangelicals.

Better to recognize the overwhelming foulness and acridness of the Tea Party Libertarians, Mr. Barwig, and demand that your Republican Party return to its moderate roots for the sake of your children and grandchildren.
