4-H pumpkin patch and fall festival

Pick a pumpkin at the 4-H pumpkin patch and enjoy a family style carnival event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 6 at Lampe Park. Activities include a pumpkin run, face painting, food, pumpkin bowling, raffle, silent auction, petting zoo, cupcake walk, bounce house, pumpkin decorating, and carnival games. A youth costume contest will be held at noon with prizes for the winners. Smokey Bear will be on hand, and youth can sit in a real fire truck. There is no admission fee, but there are fees for some activities. Pumpkins and costume prizes donated by Joe Benigno’s Tree Service.Pre-registration is encouraged for the pumpkin run for children ages pre-school through fifth grade. Cost is $3 per child. Register at the Douglas County Recreation Office, 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Children who enter the race will be divided into heats of boys and girls for each age level. Participants will run a distance, between 25 and 100 yards, which is determined by age. Each participant will receive a ribbon, and the top three runners of each heat will win a prize. First place receives a $10 gift card, second place winners will receive a pumpkin pie, and third will get to pick a pumpkin. Races will start promptly at 10 a.m. All prizes must be claimed by the end of the final race.For more information on the fall festival, call 782-9960 .
