Drunken spending spree

So 7 million people signed up for Obamacare out of 300 million US citizens (Maybe, since the number who have paid their premiums is unknown.) The President bragged they did it without a hard sell. That was his April Fools Day joke, and it was on us. The government has spent an average of about $684 million per year promoting the Affordable Care Act. ACA Section 4002 provided $500 million for ads in 2010, $750 million in 2011, $1 billion in 2012, $1.25 billion in 2013, and $1.5 billion for fiscal year 2014 to run ads for Obamacare. The ACA law will allow the government to spend $2 billion in FY 2015 touting Obamacare after it should have already been established and running smoothly. (Another joke.) That’s my money, and yours. And we still have to pay for our insurance.

That $684 million spent on ACA advertising per year is almost the same as that spent by Apple on Iphone and about half what WalMart spends per year. But they don’t use my tax dollars to do so.

I would have preferred the government use that approximately $6 billion already spent on advertising to build a few clinics near teaching hospitals where city folks could have availed themselves of free or low-cost medical care. Or to just buy the insurance policies for those unable to.

Then the President complains about spending by those who opposed the ACA. He complained that the Koch brothers spent $1 million to oppose the ACA. But that was the Koch brothers own money, not mine.

If WalMart or Apple or a rich businessman wants to spend their money on ads for something I don’t like, that’s their privilege. But don’t spend my tax dollars on something unconstitutional like promoting the government’s stealing of my and your money on something half of us think is the wrong way to help people. This is gross misuse of tax dollars.

Our members of government, all of them, all parties, all three branches, are on a drunken spending spree and we’re paying for it. That’s my money. And yours.
