William Sheerin identified as man found at Lampe Park

A body found Monday morning at Lampe Park in Gardnerville was identified as William Murphey Sheerin, 24, of Gardnerville.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Sheerin was found kneeling face down in Lampe Creek by park rangers.

Cause of death is suspected as drowning, Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Brooks said, however final cause will not be determined until after the autopsy and toxicology reports have been completed.

The body was found at about 8:21 a.m.

During the investigation, receipts found from a local store show that Sheerin purchased some alcohol and cigarettes on Sunday. It is unknown how Sheerin arrived at the park. No obvious trauma was located and no foul play is suspected at this time.

Anyone who may have had contact with Sheerin in the last 48 hours is asked to contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Investigation Division as 775-782-9905.

Sheerin is 2008 graduate of Douglas High School, where he played football and ran track.
