Obituary: James Michael Ranspot

James Michael Ranspot, age 66, passed away at home on Monday, October 8th in Carson City from terminal pancreatic cancer. He was born on October 7th, 1946 in Hereford, Texas to farmers and ranchers Patrick and Quillah Ranspot. He was one of five children. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Henry Virgil Ranspot of Dallas, Texas; his sister, Patricia Ann Vinton; brothers-in-law, Don Vinton and Jim Lassiter of Hereford, Texas; his father-in-law, Irwin Dean Rhodes of Hereford, Texas; and his mother-in-law, Bea Bullard, of Lubbock, Texas. He is survived by his two sisters, Oma Lee Lassiter of Hereford, Texas and Rita Lynn Simons of Amarillo, Texas.

After graduating from Hereford High School in 1965 and attending Amarillo Junior College, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Lynn Rhodes on June 8th, 1966 in Hereford, Texas. They were married 46 years and had three sons, Michael Shawn Ranspot of Doylestown, Pa., Yancey Dean Ranspot of Albuquerque, N.M. and Patrick Whitney Ranspot of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Melissa Ranspot of Albuquerque, N.M. and Shelly Ranspot of Portland, Oregon; also, his sisters-in-law, Sheila Rhodes of Dallas, Texas and Melinda Whitfill and brother-in-law Gary Whitfill of Wolfforth, Texas and Shane Wolf of Doylestown, Pa. He has six grandchildren, Brittanie, Brandon, Mikayla, Malia, Orrin and Aeson Ranspot.

After many years in the tire business, he surrendered to full-time ministry that spanned over 40 years pastoring in Wichita, Kan. at Lincoln Baptist Church; Taos, N.M. at Taos Baptist Tabernacle and Carson City, Nev. at Ponderosa Bible Baptist Church. His wife, Barbara, will continue in the ministry in Nev. where they have served the last fifteen years.

There will be a memorial service at Lighthouse Baptist Church, pastored by Randy Ralstin and officiated by Pastor Rick Lynn from Grace Baptist Church in Fernley, Nev., at 5350 Pembroke Drive, Reno, Nevada on Saturday, October 13th at 2:00pm. There will be a viewing at Walton’s Funeral Home 1281 North Roop St., Carson City from 10:00 – 12:00 on Saturday, October 13th. There will also be memorial and graveside services in Hereford, Texas at First Baptist Church and Restlawn Cemetery held by Pastor Bill Prater of Fellowship Baptist Church in Liberal, Kan. and Pastor Rick Lynn of Grace Baptist Church in Fernley, Nev. on October 27th at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, all donations can be made in James Michael Ranspot’s name and sent to Grace Baptist Church P.O. Box 2344, Fernley, Nevada 89408 to their faith missions program reaching souls at home and abroad.
