Obituary: B. Jeanneane Lake
October 3, 2012
Jeanneane passed away September 30, 2012, 41 days shy of her 84th birthday, with family members and friends present. She was born November 10, 1928 in Chickahsa, Okla. to parents Vernon E. “Judge” Thornton and Kathryn “Katy” Marshall Thornton. They had raised their family near Ninnekah, Okla. She was the youngest of their three daughters and one son. She graduated high school in Ninnekah in 1946 then attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Okla. She later attended U.C. California in Merced, majoring in Accounting Principals. Jeanneane and Jack were high school sweethearts and were married on the 4th of March 1949 in Ninnekah and had their honeymoon in Dallas, Texas. They soon moved to Oklahoma City where Jack worked for the State Office of the Farmers Home Administration and she had worked for a time as an operator for the Southwestern Bell Telephone co. and later as an accountant for Universal C.I.T. After a pause for pregnancy, she delivered her first-born on November 29, 1949, a daughter, Linda Sue. Next, on November 24, 1951, a pair of twins, Carl Dean and Carol Jean came along. They moved from Oklahoma City to Duncan, Okla. to open a Photographic Studio and Camera Store, before moving to Merced, Calif. in 1964. They opened and operated a retail clothing-store for several years before moving to South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Jeanneane at that time worked for Grub & Ellis DEVCO as Project Controller while they were developing Lakeland Village. Jeanneane also supervised the Accounting Department for Village Resorts who at that time operated the on-site rental program in Lakeland. She continued her accounting career at Lakeland until she retired in 1997. In the meantime she and Jack had moved to Carson Valley, Nev. Retirement bored her and she went back to work in 1998 for one of her previous employers, Lex Adams, whose company was managing “The Ridge Tahoe” and developing Walley’s Hot Springs Resort in Genoa, Nev. She retired again… in September 2000, allowing her to work full time at being a mother of two, grandmother of five and great-grandmother of ten. She thoroughly enjoyed this until the day she passed away! Jeanneane is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Doris Oldshield and Maxine Richardson; and her son, Carl Dean. Jeanneane is survived by her husband, Jack Lake; daughters, Linda Sue (Tim) Noble, Carol Jean “C.J.” Lake-Johnson; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Peter) Beninger, Katy (Mark) Gardner and Kimberly (Landon) Smallwood; two grandsons, Jason (Andrea) Lake and Ryan Noble. In recent years, she enjoyed and was very proud of her ten great-grandchildren, Tyler Lake, Lucas Noble, Everett Noble, Isabella Beninger, Kendra Gardner, Kayne Smallwood, Avalon Beninger, twins Travis and Trevor Gardner and Daymian Smallwood. Services will be Saturday, October 13, 2012 at FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home, 1380 Highway 395, Gardnerville, Nevada 89410 at 11:00 a.m. Burial follows at the Genoa Cemetery on Foothill Road just north of the town of Genoa, Nev.
