April 11, 1929 - November 22, 2013
Myra Springmeyer McCollum, 84, passed away peacefully on November 22. Born on April 11, 1929, to Pauline “Polly” Jepsen Springmeyer and Herman Springmeyer, Myra, known to her friends and family as “Mike,” was the beloved wife of Edmund Joseph McCollum, who preceded her in death on February 22, 2000. Mike and Ed were best known in the valley for the custom homes he built on the shores of Lake Tahoe. A fourth-generation native of Carson Valley, Myra raised two daughters, Michelle “Missy” McCollum Cartmell (Daniel) and Gaye McCollum-Nickles (Thomas). Her daughters remember a hardworking mother who loved to garden, enjoyed her three grandchildren Allison Cartmell Koehnke (Andrew), Rachel Simmons Bowen (Eric), and Thomas Edmund Simmons (Sarah), and was delighted by her two great-grandchildren Kellen Andrew Koehnke and Myra Abigail Simmons. She is fondly remembered by a favorite niece Karen Reed McGee and nephew Brett Edward Reed, children of Paula and Ed Reed of Minden. Mike passed quietly with her daughter Missy at her side, and was welcomed into the peace of her new home by her loving husband. Graveside service will be held at the Joseph Scossa Family grounds in the Genoa Cemetery on Friday, December 6, at 1:00.
