March 10, 1931 - September 14, 2013
Mary Lou Grippi was the sixth born of eight children. She was born in Murphy, North Carolina to Harv and Abigail Arrowood on March 10, 1931. Growing up in North Carolina, she was affectionately referred to as “Pretty” by her siblings and friends. She married James Nathaniel Jackson in 1950, and they started a family while running a dry cleaning business before Jame’s passing. Mary Lou and her children moved to Fresno, California where she continued in the dry cleaning profession. She married Jack Grippi and they had two more children. Jack preceded her in death in 1982, and in 1999, Mary Lou moved to Gardnerville, Nevada where she worked for Jackson Quality Drywall until retiring in 2006.
Mary Lou enjoyed having lunch and playing Bingo at the Senior Center with her good friend, Cleta Hall and her favorite topic of conversation were her children. Anyone who ever had the privilege of knowing Mary Lou knew that she had seven children and was quite proud that she raised them as a single mother (widow) for a good deal of their lives. She enjoyed attending Carson Valley Methodist Church and, of course, Pastor Pete.
She was preceded in death by her son, James Richard Jackson; she will be dearly missed by Donald (Bonnie) Jackson, Debbie Thomas (Larry), Steve (Amy) Jackson, William Jackson (Flo), Shelley McGriff, and Michael Grippi; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Mary Lou on Saturday, September 28th at 1:00 p.m. at 1560 Willow Creek Lane, Gardnerville. Friends and family are invited to attend.
