June 14, 1921 - August 26, 2013
June Keir Hunter died peacefully on August 26, 2013 at the age of 92 in Portland, OR. She was born in San Bernardino, CA June 14, 1921 to Donald and Irma Keir. She graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1938 and went on to attend Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa (1938 - 1940). Later she married Ray Hunter and raised a family in Colton, California. During these years she worked for the school district as a secretary. She moved to the Eastern Sierras where she worked for the Mono County Office of Education. She loved the beauty of the Sierras. Her daughter, Kathy and grandchildren, Shelly and Kim moved to the Sierras to be near her. For the past two and a half years, she was living near her daughter, Pat in Portland where she enjoyed attending musical events, movies, a ride on the stern wheeler on the Columbia, visiting with people, and going out to dinner.
She deeply valued family and friendship, loved her dogs, enjoyed teaching as many as she could how to make a good pie crust, and was an advocate for education.
It was her wish not to have a memorial service and to have her ashes placed in the sea. She is survived by her daughters, Pat Hunter, Kathy Padgett (Dick); grandchildren, Kim Fitzgerald (Jim), Shelly Dunn (Steve); great granddaughters, Lauren, Monica, and Natalie.
Memorial donations may be made to St. James Santiago Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 789, Lincoln City, OR, 97367 and designated to the school’s scholarship fund in memory of June K. Hunter.
