Obituary: Delfina (Del) Durboraw

December 24, 1924 - August 9, 2013

Delfina Durboraw, 88, formerly of Minden, Nevada, passed away after a brief illness on August 9, 2013, at the Mission Community Hospital, in Panorama City, California.

Del was born in Los Angeles, California on December 24, 1924, to Ireneo and Felicitas Bautista. She was married to Fred William Durboraw on April 24, 1948; they were married fifty-seven years at the time of his passing in 2005.

After graduating from Cosmetology School, Del worked as a cosmetologist for many years for the Joseph Magnin Company, an upscale specialty department store in the Los Angeles area that also included a salon. She enjoyed many hobbies, most of which centered on her love of art, photography and creativity, and graduated from art school in the Los Angeles area. She was actively involved in her church, attending Trinity Lutheran Church, in Gardnerville, where she attended regular Sunday services, bible study and enjoyed singing in the church choir. With her husband she was a lifelong member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, as well as many other local service organizations.

Delfina is survived by her sons, John F. Durboraw (Mary) of Columbia, Missouri, and David T. Durboraw of Oxnard, California. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michellee Ruiz (David) of Tyndall AFB, Florida, Todd Durboraw (Christina) of Northridge, California, Jessica Kohler (Neil) of Columbia, Missouri, Marisa Durboraw of Santa Monica, California, Eric Durboraw of Omaha, Nebraska, Dylan Durboraw of Sherman Oaks, California, and Jared Durboraw of Columbia, Missouri; and great grandchildren, Tyler, Riley, Alexis, and Reagan Durboraw, and Malia and Dominic Ruiz; and twin great-grandsons whose births are expected in October; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Electa and John J. Durboraw; her brothers and sisters, Amelia, Xavier, Rachel, Marcelo, Alphonso, Margaret and Esther and their spouses; and her nieces, Mignon Branch and Eldora Smedley.

Delfina will be interred with her husband at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, California, on September 24, 2013. This is also the resting place of her mother and father-in-law.

A memorial ceremony is pending.
