Obituary: Robert Anthony Gardner

Sep. 15, 1938 - April 9, 2013

Robert Anthony Gardner, 74, passed away April 9, 2013 at his home in Minden, NV. Bob was born Sept. 15, 1938 to Eva Hutchings Colburn & Rouel Gardner in Sacramento, CA.

He married Sandra Lynn Wardell on June 12, 1962 in the St. George Utah Temple. Robert and Sandra celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer.

Robert attended Reno High School. After graduation he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western Canada Mission. Robert attended the University of Oregon, BYU, and then UNR where he received his Master’s Degree in Engineering.

After working as an Engineer for Washoe County, he moved his family to Minden to be the Douglas County Public Works Director and County Engineer. Later he opened Gardner Engineering where he avidly provided quality engineering service in the area. He has resided in Minden for the past 39 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his seven children, Scott (Brenda) Gardner of Rexburg, ID, Cindy (Rob) Kurth of Las Vegas, NV, Candee (Rod) Coverley of Ashton, ID, Mark (Katy) Gardner of Dayton, NV, Julie (Tim) Logan of Dayton, NV, Lisa (Reid) Robison, and Kevin Gardner of Salt Lake City, UT; 22 grandchildren; and his brother, Ron (Donna) Gardner of St. George, UT.

Bob had fond memories of family vacations, water skiing, snow skiing, building jet boats, several years serving as a Boy Scout leader and youth soccer and baseball coaches, was on the Minden Town Board, Douglas County School Board, and started the Saturday Ski Club for area kids in 1976 that still runs today. He’s always been a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including serving as a Bishop for two wards in Reno.

Funeral will be held Saturday, April 20th at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel on Spruce St. in Minden. A viewing will be held Friday evening at FitzHenry’s Funeral Home, 1380 Highway 395, Gardnerville, from 5-7 p.m., and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the LDS Church.
