Free bus trips and Bigfoot

The impending tax day got you down? Well, starting Monday, Douglas Area Rural Transit will be offering a month of free bus rides to promote the addition of the new Walmart and the Ironwood Shopping Center.

The bus stops at the Tillman Center in the Gardvnerville Ranchos, Carson Valley Medical Center, Walmart, Herbig Park, Smith’s, the Douglas County Senior Center, Carson Valley Inn, the Douglas County Public Library in Minden, the Carson Valley Swim Center and the Ironwood Center. For times or information call 783-6455.

A bigfoot walks into a bar and starts playing pool. The barkeep walks up to him and says “We don’t get many bigfoots around here.”

“I’m not surprised,” Bigfoot said, pointing at the “No Shoes, No Service” sign.

OK, that was a pretty dismal punch line, but the crew from Animal Planet’s “Finding Bigfoot” filmed for four hours inside the Genoa Bar on Saturday, according to Head Barkeep Willy Webb.

The real joke is that they missed bigfoot, who was in Friday night.

“It’s really unfortunate because Bigfoot was in the bar the previous night,” Willy said. “A pretty decent pool player, but yech ...what a stench!”

As the weather warms up, we’re coming up on the classic car event horizon. I was talking with Archie Walker and Bruce Darling about the Holy Smoker Grill & Car Show on May 4, when Chuck Hill comes in with a photo for the Gardnerville Rockathon, which is May 18.

Chuck said that gas prices have a big effect on what kind of turnout a classic car show gets around here.

“These cars get better gas mileage when they’re on a trailer being towed by a truck.”
