On July 15, 2014, John Charles Karp, Jr. joined our Lord in heaven, free from the illnesses and pain he had suffered. John was born on May 21, 1936, to John C. Karp and Ysabel Macy Karp in San Francisco, CA. John attended schools in San Francisco and Marin County. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1959 with a degree in history. In 1959, he was commissioned in the US Army and served 23 years. He retired from the Army in 1982 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served two tours in Vietnam and tours in Japan, Germany and nine states. In 1958, he met the love of his life, Carole Randolph and they had three children, Stephanie, Suzanne and John III. They all traveled the world together and have many wonderful memories. John loved history, art and design. He created many drawings through various media. He had a great sense of humor and created many cartoons. John was active in Toastmasters, Sertoma and Christ Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Stephen Karp. He is survived by his wife Carole, daughters Stephanie (Steve Cox) and Suzanne (Charlie Rogers) and son, John (Julie) Karp. The prides of his life are his granddaughters, Samantha (Nick Kirkpatrick), Katherine (Mitch Hiegel), Hannah Rogers, Elizabeth Rollins and Nicole Guarnera. Celebration of John’s full life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 1 pm at Christ Presbyterian Church in Gardnerville, NV. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to those charities that support the military, or a charity of your choice.
