It is with deep sadness that the Johnstone family announces the passing of their father, David Gordon Johnstone. In burial he joins his beloved wife Barbara Johnstone, who pre-deceased him May 5, 2009 in Boise, Idaho. David passed away peacefully on April 18, 2014 following a fractured hip and pneumonia in Garnerville, Nevada. David was born on March 30, 1930 in Santa Clara to Quintin Chesley Johnstone and (Marie) Lillian Antoinette LeMoyne (LeMoine). They emigrated from Ottawa, Canada in the early 1920s and became citizens in 1956 and 1976 respectively. David attended the local Santa Clara Valley public schools and graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory. His teenage years were spent working under his father’s supervision in the First Security Storage and Warehouse in San Jose which received fruits from local growers, stored them in pre-cooling rooms and shipped them to the eastern U.S. markets. In 1948 David joined the US Navy, where he was assigned to U.S.S Missouri. With a medical discharge due to TB in 1956, he returned to Santa Clara Valley. In 2009, after wife Barbara’s passing, David moved to Gardnerville, NV to “to throw a fishing line out the front door” An enthusiastic sportsman coming from a long line of Canadian top sportsmen, outdoor living was a passion. Fishing, hunting, trap and game shooting, golfing and camping were all top on his list which he shared with his family. Cars, especially Austin Healey’s, were also a favorite past time. David was also involved in several bowling leagues over his life time and held a regular average in the 230’s.
