Two held in Ranchos burglary

Two California men are facing felony charges in connection with a June 4 burglary in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

David Jose Herrera and Jason Lyons were arrested during the service of a search warrant on a home in the 1300 block of Kimmerling Road.

Lyons of El Dorado Hills, Calif., and Herrera, 29, of Pinole, Calif., appeared in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday morning.

According to court documents, Lyons faces a charge of residential burglary while Herrera faces multiple charges including possession of stolen property and a fugitive warrant out of California.

Lyon and Herrera are accused of entering a Yellowjacket home and taking multiple guitars, laptops and tablets.

Investigators executing a search warrant at the Kimmerling home found Herrera hiding in a closet.

Herrera is being held on $41,929 bail. Lyon is being held on $25,000 bail.

Both men are due back in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday.

■ A man who allegedly took advantage of his blind grandfather by stealing thousands of dollars from him faces charges of theft and exploitation of the elderly.

Eric Thomas Morgan, 28, appeared in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday morning.

Morgan allegedly broke into the elderly Minden man’s safe and pawned more than $12,000 in gold and silver coins and jewelry, wrote unauthorized checks on the victim’s bank account, and when Morgan was incarcerated in California, used the victim’s credit card to bail himself out.

The crime was reported Dec. 28, 2013, after members of the victim’s family examined the house and found the back of the safe had been removed.

As a result of the investigation, a warrant was issued for Morgan’s arrest on April 25. Morgan was taken into custody in St. George, Utah, on May 12.

Morgan also faces a theft charge for a July 24, 2013, incident in which he is accused of taking prepaid cell phones from Target.

According to court documents, Morgan has a heroin habit.
