A wine and cheese shop that will bring a taste of the world to Gardnerville is opening today.
“I want to introduce my customers to imported and domestic goods,” said Rachel Lister, owner of The Blue Cow Cheese, Wine, and Specialty Food Shop. “I really want to take them on a tour of the world.”
The shop offers a variety of gourmet goods such as cheeses, wines, salami’s, butters, crackers, jams, oils, vinegars and much more. Lister said she has a lot of knowledge and experience in the restaurant industry. Her mother owned a cheese shop and she worked in family owned restaurants for a lot of her life.
She said the shop is one of a kind in Gardnerville.
“The items in my shop are items you can’t find in other places, and the fun is in the tasting,” she said. “I don’t want any customer to buy a cheese without tasting it.”
Also available to taste are jams, tapenades, crostini’s, mustards and much more; there will be tasting spoons available in front of the products. Lister plans on having one or two events a month where customers can come in and do wine tastings. She also plans on doing many themed tastings such as Italian, French and Spanish nights, as well as themed gift baskets that customers can purchase.
“We cater to all price ranges,” Lister said. “There are a lot of items that are really reasonable, but there are also a lot of items that are more gourmet.”
Lister was able to purchase a wheel of Beemster Graskaas Gouda cheese, imported from Holland, where they only make so many wheels per year. She said these kinds of limited addition items add to the uniqueness that her shop will bring. The shop can be found on Twitter and Facebook as The Blue Cow and at TheBlueCowCheese.com.
The shop is located at 1503 Highway 395, Suite F, in The Record-Courier building. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
