Robert Lynn Thompson (Bob), 78, of Gardnerville, Nevada, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Betty, at his bedside, on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Bob was born in Margaretville, New York, on January 10, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Thorington Thompson Tyler and Bradley H. Thompson. A graduate of Margaretville Central High School, Bob attended Rochester Institute of Technology and Indiana State College. Bob also served in the United States Air Force for four years and his last tour of duty was in Tripoli, Africa.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betty J. Potomis Thompson; his brother, Alan and wife, Andrea Tyler Thompson of Floyd, Virginia; his sister, Mary Thompson of Pendleton, South Carolina; his Aunt Lolly Monsees of Port Orange, Florida; his sister-in-law, Sheryn and husband, Robert Dell’Aglio of Plains, Pennsylvania; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Bob and Betty lived in Bainbridge, New York, for over 17 years while Bob was an employee of Bendix Corporation. In 1980, Bendix transferred Bob to California where they resided for 10 years before retiring and moving to Gardnerville, Nevada. Bob was an integral part of St. Gall. He was project manager on the construction of the St. Gall Pastoral Community Center, Rectory 2 and the church parking lot. Bob was a member of the Finance Committee, an Usher, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, and was responsible for starting the 40 Cans of Lent Program. Bob and Betty enjoyed many years traveling. They spent 10 years RVing in the western part of the United States, they river cruised throughout Eastern and Central Europe, and on their 50th wedding anniversary, April 20, 2013, cruised the Eastern Caribbean with their siblings. A rosary will be said at 10:30 AM followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00AM on Friday, May 9, 2014, at St. Gall Catholic Church.
