James Wheeler Valkus, of Gardnerville, NV, passed away peacefully Monday morning, 4/14/14, at the age of 90. He was preceded in passing by Thelma, his loving wife of 52 years, as well as his brother David, and sisters Natalie and Betty. James was born in Dallas, Texas and attended Wheaton College and Dallas Theological Seminary. One of his first jobs as a child was arranging bowling pins before automation. He was also an accomplished musician and sang on Christian radio. He loved photography and was the official photographer for his college. He worked in the Texas oil fields before moving to California, where he met Thelma at the Glendale Presbyterian Church. They married and resided in La Crescenta for 40 years, before moving to Gardnerville to be near their grandchildren. James loved the Lord, his family, and his grandchildren and was a great story-teller. James is survived by his daughter, Cindi and her husband Keith, Deborah and her husband Mark, and their children, C.J., Landon, and Kendra Wynar, as well as C.J.’s fiancé Melissa Schaffer, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on May 4, 2014 at 11:30 at FitzHenry’s Funeral Home in Gardnerville.
