James Wesley Galbraith, devoted husband, father of four children, papa of thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren died on Monday, February 24, 2014 after a long illness. Jim enjoyed a good life among adoring friends and family, as the life of a party and teller of jokes, for all occasions. He cherished his family above all, which he began with his wife, Victoria, in El Monte,CA. Together they raised their children Valerie, Sam, Tim and Andy in Upland,CA where he lived and worked for over twenty years. Jim was born on December 13, 1931 in Paris, Arkansas. His father died when he was three in a mining accident. And in 1937, his mother made the to move to San Gabriel, CA with him and his six older siblings. He graduated from Mark Keppel High School in San Gabriel as a football and basketball star.
Jim met the love of his life, Victoria Moffitt, when he was twenty, while working for her father. Shortly after, he was drafted into the Army Signal Corp during the Korean War. On May 16,1953, Jim and Vicki were married. Jim and his brother, Pat, worked together plastering homes and later went into business,as Pomona Pool Plastering. He employed many of his friends, his boys, his future son-in-law and many of their friends too. He transitioned to a job as a construction superintendent, overseeing many of the business and housing developments around Southern California. In 1992, Jim and Vicki moved to South Lake Tahoe where they began their careers in real estate at Century 21 Real Estate. They moved down to Carson Valley in 1994 where they went to work for Century 21 Clark Properties for several years. Jim was a sportsman at heart who enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Tahoe and Carson Valley areas. He had a “green thumb” with a knack for growing things and was always so proud of his gardens. He loved western movies and was an avid reader and loyal USC football fan. There will be a Celebration of Life at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Jim Prather, on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. at their home in Gardnerville, Nevada.
