The R-C Morning Report for March 3

Today is the first day to file for nonjudicial elective office in Nevada. I’m told to expect a line at the Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer’s office this morning. I’ll be down there and will update who’s filed for what as we go along. Filing remains open until 5 p.m. March 14.

Sentencing is scheduled for this morning in the case of a Gardnerville man accused of shooting up downtown Gardnerville after he was escorted out of Nevada Ugly for fighting. Bryce Askay, 23, had threatened to shoot bar patrons 90 minutes before shots were fired at the businesses. No one was injured. He was arrested nine months after the March 25, 2012, incident.

Despite coming in well above average precipitation, February was no droughtbuster, with preliminary figures showing the Carson River Basin received 109 percent of average. Natural Resource Conservation Service snow telemetry readings from the Sierra show Ebbetts Pass received 121 percent of average, while Spratt Creek received 189 percent of average for the month.

It might rain after 4 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service, but don’t expect much of a deluge. Rain will stay with us on and off through the week, clearing by Thursday. Today’s high will climb to 57 degrees, with the wind out of the southwest at 5-15 mph.
