Salvatore and Val Gray have taken over the Killer Salsa plant in Gardnerville and are modifying it to produce their Italian Hearts Pasta Sauce.
Sal Gray said they purchased the plant from Fran Pritchard in August and have been modifying it for their use.
“We live in Reno and commute,” he said Wednesday morning. “We use to rent space from One World Kitchen in Sparks. We’re also building a staff for production at this plant.”
Pritchard said that she will continue to make her Killer Salsa at the plant. Killer Salsa celebrated 20 years in Carson Valley this year.
“We make salsa in the morning and they make pasta sauce in the afternoon,” she said last month. “So far it works out well.”
The Grays said they have been in business for 2 1/2 years.
“Our products are made with top-shelf ingredients as we cook and eat for good health,” Gray said. “We are also building a cafe and another production plant in Mid-Town Reno which will be completed early next year.”
The Italian Heart Pasta Sauce is available in Reno at Whole Foods and both locations of Big Horn Olive Oil Co., Hungry Mother Organics in Minden, Great Basin Co-Op in Reno, Napa Sonoma in Reno and were just picked up by Scolaris including Gardnerville. Gray said they used the Big Horn organic olive oil in their sauces.

The Grays will be in the bakery department at Whole Foods in Reno this weekend offering samples of their sauce noon to 5 p.m.
