Gardnerville Ranchos bowling alley closes doors

The operators of Silver Strike Lanes confirmed Wednesday that the Gardnerville Ranchos bowling alley is closed.

Word of the closure spread through Carson Valley on Monday that owners Joe and Diana Shaffer had closed its doors.

“It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the closure of Silver Strike Lanes,” they said in an email to The Record-Courier. “We have enjoyed being here in Carson Valley over the last few years and have formed many great friendships with our customers in the community.”

The Shaffers said they couldn’t discuss the factors that contributed to closing the bowling alley.

“There were many factors that contributed to the closing of Silver Strike Lanes, but unfortunately we cannot disclose those at this time,” according to the email. “We sincerely hope to have our issues resolved in the very near future. Thanks to all of our great customers and friends who came out and supported the ‘local guys.’”

The couple took over operation of the bowling alley in spring 2011.

The building started out as Gorman’s Rancho Market in 1994. The market closed in October 1999.

It reopened as a bowling alley a few years later, and has operated ever since.
