Young bear caught in Incline Village
September 26, 2013
A 2-year-old 160-pound male black bear was captured Thursday in a Nevada Division of Wildlife trap set Wednesday afternoon at a location in Incline Village.
The trap was moved from a location near Gardnerville on Wednesday morning. The "dispersal age" male bear had never been handled by NDOW before. It has been tranquilized and processed, and will be released back into the wild on Friday.
Processing includes affixing an ear tag, capturing various DNA samples and tattooing an area in the bear's mouth.
The bear will sleep off the drugs tonight and will be released somewhere on the Nevada side of the Lake Tahoe Basin, away from roads, so NDOW can perform aversion conditioning on the bear. Traps set in Yerington, Topaz Ranch and in the foothills of Reno are active overnight.
