Colin Buchholz had 10 points in Whittell's win against Eureka in the first game of the north zone tournament on Feb. 22.

The Whittell Warriors defeated the rival Virginia City Muckers, 53-48 to win the Division IV State Tournament at Lawlor Events Center on Saturday.

Just a week before, the Muckers were responsible for Whittell's only loss in the zone playoff games.

Bryce Bronken led the scoring for Whittell with 17 points, including two 3-pointers and three free-throws.

Mark Waite was Whittell's second leading scorer with seven baskets for 14 points. Palmer Chaplin had 11 points including three baskets, a 3-pointer and two free throws.

Quinn Kixmiller scored 7 points including a free throw.

Also scoring were Cole Snyder and Colin Buccholz.

The state victory comes two weeks after Whittell cinched its first IV Northern League title since 1991

On Friday night, Whittell defeated Division IV Southern Nevada zone champion Spring Mountain 53-50 in the state basketball semi-finals at Wooster High School in Reno.
