Staff Reports

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services is holding the first meeting of the Nevada Women Veterans Advisory Committee 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 23 at 5460 Reno Corporate Drive in Reno.

NDVS is asking for the public's assistance in gathering information about women veterans in Nevada by going online and filling out the 18 question survey which should only take a few minutes to complete.

"By completing this survey you will assist the committee to better understand and focus its efforts," Director Kat Miller said. "If you are a woman veteran, please fill out this survey and forward to any women veterans in your own network. If you are not a woman veteran please send this link to any women veterans that you have contact with. We would appreciate completion of the surveys by July 15."

The Women Veterans Advisory Committee was initiated by Gov. Brian Sandoval through Executive Order 2014-8 in March 2014. The committee will work to support and assist the NDVS women veterans coordinator in locating, educating and advocating for all women veterans in the state.

The committee will also assist with outreach through various means, including the Green Zone Network, the organization of statewide women veterans events, the promotion of benefits and superior health care for women veterans, and development of programs that inform school children, business leaders, and educators about the important role women play in America's Armed Forces.
