Trick-or-Treat Street now open

Trick-or-Treat Safety Street at the CVIC Hall in Minden is open through 8 p.m. tonight.

The 19th annual event is sponsored by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and The Record-Courier.

More than 200 volunteers make the event possible, which includes 25 candy-bearing booths, raffles and prizes.

With the $3 admission fee, children receive a raffle ticket good for prizes such as bicycles, scooters, skateboards and books.

Deputies will also be on the lookout for the best adult, child and family costumes.

Former Record-Courier Publisher Tim Huether founded Trick-or-Treat Safety Street in 1993 as an alternative to traditional trick-or-treating.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Youth Services Division and its Explorers, GREAT, DARE and Fighting Chance programs.

The Red Cross is providing free hot chocolate and coffee outside the CVIC Hall, and the opportunity to write letters to the troops.
