Trailwork, maintenance begins Saturday in Genoa
March 2, 2012
Beginning on Saturday the Carson Valley Trails Association is asking for volunteers to help with trailbuilding and maintenance. Trail work will continue during the month of March at two project locations:
All Sundays and Tuesdays at the Fay-Luther Trailhead from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
All Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Genoa Canyon, located at the end of Carson Street in Genoa, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Trail work on the Fay-Luther Trail system will be easy to moderate, involving mostly drainage improvement work, with minor reroutes on the Interpretive, Jeffrey Pine and Grand View trails.
Work on the Genoa Trail system will be moderate to strenuous and will include completion of the last 0.3 miles of trail on the Genoa Loop, with a separate project doing finishing work on the Sierra Canyon Trail.
All tools and hard hats are provided for both projects. No experience is necessary. Volunteers are required to wear long pants, long sleeved shirts, hiking shoes, work gloves and sunglasses or safety goggles. Be prepared for typical late winter and spring weather. Work will be canceled if the weather is poor. For more information, visit http://www.carsonvalleytrails.org or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Genoa Trail system is scheduled to officially open on May 12.
Until then, trail users are strongly advised not to hike anywhere in the lower Genoa Canyon area on posted work days because of the danger of falling rocks when construction is taking place. This will allow trail work crews to finish the project more quickly.
