Axie Navis/Tahoe Daily TribuneFirefighters work on an accident in South Lake Tahoe this morning.

Three people, including two young boys, were transported to Barton Memorial Hospital after the driver of a Dodge Durango ran into the South Lake Tahoe Denny’s Thursday at 8:45 a.m.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Captain Mark Wygant said the cause of the crash is still under investigation and that the severity of the injuries was unknown at 9 a.m.

“It’s hard to tell the extent of the injuries. They could be somewhere between moderate and major,” Wygant said.

Chris Arend was in the restaurant when the crash happened. He said if the vehicle hadn’t hit the column, it would have come through the window facing U.S. Highway 50.

“I didn’t see it, but I felt it…We were lucky,” Arend said.
