Three inches of snow fell over night in Genoa

Three inches of snow fell near Genoa overnight, and Heavenly Ski Resort is reporting 6 inches.

Snow tires or chains are being required over Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 from Carson City all the way to Stateline. Chains or four-wheel drive are required over Carson and Luther passes in Alpine County. Chains or four-wheel drive are being required from Coleville to eight miles north of Bridgeport on Highway 396.

According to a statement issued by the National Weather Service at 7:20 a.m. patchy fog and slick roads will pose a challenge for motorists.

Snow is possible again this afternoon across Western Nevada. While accumulations are expected to be light, they will be enough to cause hazardous driving conditions later today and tonight.

Forecasters are advising motorists to leave for their destinations early and to slow down.

The forecast for today is partly sunny with a high near 37, and a 30 percent chance of snow after 10 a.m. The wind will be light becoming 5-10 mph in the morning.
