County wraps up budget hearings today
County commissioners are holding their third public hearing on the tentative budget starting at 1 p.m. today. On the agenda today are budgets for the capital improvements program for the county and airport, the town budgets, redevelopment agency, transportation districts and the East Fork Fire & Paramedic District. The meeting times out at three hours and 10 minutes. From our experience with the previous two budget hearings, I’d be surprised if it went that long.
Teacher of the Year to be announced tonight
The Douglas County Education Foundation is hosting its annual Golden Apple Awards dinner at the Carson Valley Inn 5:30 p.m. tonight, where the Douglas County Teacher of the Year will be presented. I’m not sure you can still get a ticket, but for more information, go to http://www.douglascountyeducationfoundation.org

Chance of thunderstorms today
There’s a chance we’ll see some isolated thunderstorms after lunch, but otherwise expect mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 75 degrees. Wind will be out of the northeast at 5-10 mph, with a 20 percent chance of precipitation.
