The RC Morning Report for Aug. 30
August 30, 2013
A fallen cable blocked resulted in the traffic being diverted on Dresslerville Road this morning for about 15 minutes while emergency crews determined it wasn’t a hazard and moved it to the side of the road. Dresslerville is back open this morning.
The Rim fire cracked 200,000 acres, according to this morning’s report. While its growth has slowed, even a little growth on that fire would consume the towns of Minden and Gardnerville and look for seconds. The Air Quality Index was 193 at 5 a.m. according to the Ranchos Aspen monitor. That’s down from 258 early this morning.
The dense smoke advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight, but that may just mean it will have to be renewed for another day. It’s smoky, so don’t go outside unless you have to, and if you’re out there, don’t start doing jumping jacks just for fun.
The smoke has sent the Tigers off to Winnemucca for tonight’s Friday Night Football. They’re playing Reno High.
The forecast calls for smoke today with areas of sunniness and a high near 90 degrees. The winds will continue to blow out of the southwest, bringing more smoke. By Sunday and Labor Day there’s a chance of thunderstorms, but the smoke will still be there.
