We’ll be following up today on the skeletal remains recovered near Spooner Lake. Sheriff Ron Pierini told Channel 4 they were found by an inmate crew cleaning up the state park. The bones were taken to the Washoe County Medical Examiner for examination.
A man who signed a plea agreement in a trafficking case and then walked out of the courthouse just before his Oct. 1 arraignment is scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court this morning. David Gomez, 32, is in custody and faces arraignment in a 2013 drug case and two 2014 cases related to his time on the run.
Also up for arraignment in district court today is Washoe Valley resident Geoffrey Meudt, 40, who is accused of the theft of 60 solar panels from two homes, two churches, and the college between Nov. 11, 2013, and April 29.
Glider pilot Doug Jacobs won the Spratt Trophy in the Soaring Society of America’s 2014 18-meter Class National. The award ceremony was Friday. Jacobs won 6,262 points out of 10,000 in his Ventus 2cx-18. Minden resident Rick Walters came in second with 6,088 points and Gary Ittner came in third with 5,996.
Expect a windy day today with sunny skies and a high of 85 degrees. The wind will be out of the west, 5-10 mph, increasing to 10-15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. The National Weather Service still has the windmills and a fire weather watch up for Wednesday.
