The R-C Morning Report for Aug. 14
August 14, 2014
Minden has officially posted the vacancy for Steve Thaler's town board seat. The office pays $500 a month, but you have to live in the town proper and be a qualified elector, which means you're registered to vote. The term ends in 2016, so anyone who wants to keep it will have to stand for election. Check at http://www.townofminden.com for more info.
County Clerk-Treasurer Ted Thran's elected position is also on the county's job site at http://agency.governmentjobs.com/douglasconv/default.cfm. Again whomever gets it will have to stand for election in 2016 and needs to be a registered voter, though the pay's a bit better.
Gardnerville Town Board member Ken Miller is looking for folks to give an invocation before the town board meetings. The board approved doing the invocation at their last session, and Miller's in charge of the guest list. I think calling the town at 782-7134 should be sufficient to let them know you're interested.
Today's the last day for the big back to school drive being conducted by Frontier. Drop off school supplies at Frontier offices, where they're having a barbecue 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or the Town of Gardnerville or the Chamber of Commerce.
It was windy last night, but no major wildfires appear to have broken out nearby, which is good. Expect some wind today, around 10-15 mph, under sunny skies with a high of 84 degrees.
