The R-C Morning Report

There’s a half-foot of new snow on the ground north of Genoa this morning, and it’s still coming down. The rain forecast for Christmas Day never came, and it just started snowing in the afternoon and kept on all night long. There was 2 inches on the ground at 6 p.m. Tuesday and another 4 inches has fallen since then.

Chain controls are the rule in the mountains, and even through Minden and Gardnerville starting at Johnson Lane and running south to Bridgeport. It’s going to be a snowy commute north with controls starting in Washoe Valley and running north of Reno. Controls are also in effect on Highway 50, Kingsbury Grade, and Highway 208 from Holbrook east to Wellington.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. today with light snow continuing to fall this morning, turning to snow showers this afternoon. I suspect we’ve already seen the additional 2 inches we were supposed to get and then some. Take plenty of time to get where you’re going today. We won’t see much of the sun today, but the storm is supposed to clear by Thursday. Expect the high temperature to make it to 37.
