The R-C Morning Report
December 14, 2012
The Share Your Holiday Food Drive kicked off at 6 a.m. today in Minden at the Carson Valley Inn. It’s a little chilly to just hang out this morning, but if you’ve got food to donate on the way to work, now’s the time to do it.
Ironically, Nevada’s volunteerism went from 50th in the nation to 48th, according to some outfit out of Washington D.C. I have a funny feeling that this is another one of those deals where the information source is a little sketchy. I just put 89410 in the search and came up with two entries for the Community Emergency Response Teams and the Sheriff’s Volunteers in Police Service, and an outfit called Reach Out and Read, which until this very minute, I’ve never heard of. Covering Douglas County as I do, I believe volunteerism is alive and well here.
I had to look this up, but the reason Nevadans will be able to buy Powerball tickets is because they’re going on sale in California, not because Nevada’s changed its position on lotteries, which are illegal here.
The real Nevada lottery is the weather. Today looks like it will be partly sunny with a high near 38. We might see a storm pulse this afternoon that will drop a little bit of snow, then another one on Saturday afternoon.
