The R-C Morning Report
October 30, 2012
A Gardnerville Ranchos woman is scheduled to be arraigned this morning in Douglas County District Court this morning on charges related to domestic battery and use of methamphetamine. Linda Cervantes, 34, waived her preliminary hearing earlier this month in her Oct. 1 arrest and under a plea agreement will plead guilty to felony unlawful use of a controlled substance. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors will agree to recommend Western Regional Drug Court as a condition of probation.
Today is the last day to request an absentee ballot from the Douglas County Clerk’s Office. So far 2,585 absentee ballots have been returned in the election, accounting for 9.1 percent of the county’s 28,488 active voters. As of end of business Monday, another 9,269 voters cast a ballot early. Between the two 41.6 percent of the electorate has already voted. That exceeds total Republican turnout in the primary (by far the highest) by a third of a point.
While Sandy’s the big weather news this week, we may see some weather of our own in the next few days. Today will be sunny with a high temperature in the mid-70s, but the wind will pick up on Wednesday bringing a chance of showers in on Thursday.
