The R-C Morning Report
October 22, 2012
It’s raining down in the Valley, but the state is showing chains or snow tires are required over Spooner Summit, so that means it’s snowing up top. Whittell High and Zephyr Cove Elementary schools are on an hour delay. So far, Kingsbury isn’t showing any road controls, but that could change as the day progresses. Chains or four-wheel drive are being required over Interstate 80, Highway 50 and Highway 88. A high-wind watch is in effect on Highway 395 through Washoe Valley.
A winter storm warning is in effect for pretty much the entire length of the Sierra. Two inches of snow fell early this morning at Ebbetts Pass, and is continuing to fall. Expect winter driving conditions in the mountains.
There’s a wind advisory in effect for most of Nevada, including the western valleys. The strongest winds are expected this morning, with gusty winds through the afternoon. Expect wind speeds of 20-36 mph gusting to 55 mph. Wind prone areas, such as Highway 88, can expect gusts of up to 65 mph.
It’s going to rain all day, according to the National Weather Service, with amounts up to a quarter of an inch falling between now and Tuesday, when there’s a chance it might turn to snow in the valleys. Expect a high temperature today of 55 degrees.
