Today is the last day to register to vote or change your registration, and you have to do it in person at the Douglas County Clerk’s Office, either in Minden or in Stateline. If you want to vote in this election this is the last chance to sign up to do so. Today is also the deadline for candidates to file their contributions and expenditures reports.
A 68-year-old Johnson Lane man who was told he had to give up his gun collection and stop drinking is scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court this morning on a charge of probation violation. William Calebaugh could face a 12-32 month prison sentence on a charge of attempted assault with a deadly weapon if he’s found to have violated his probation.
The bears are coming out of the mountains looking for food. On Monday, Douglas County received a report of a bear sniffing around Zephyr Cove Elementary. Alpine County reports two bear incidents, including one that broke into a kitchen looking for food and making a mess.
Summer doesn’t look like it’s in any hurry to clear out this week, though we’ll see some cooler days. Expect mostly sunny skies today with a high temperature of 78 degrees. It’ll be a bit breezy with west winds 5-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
