The Carson Valley Reforestation and Beautification Foundation, which planted all the trees along Highway 395, is seeking $5,000 from the town of Minden to aid with fertilization, weed control, mowing pruning and drip line upkeep on the two-mail stretch of trees. The Minden Town Board meets 5:30 p.m. tonight in the CVIC Hall. Town Board members are also discussing the CVIC Hall rental policy for nonprofit theatrical groups.
Firefighters estimate containment of the Preacher fire today as work continues to finish the final 5 percent of line around the blaze. The fire has so far cost $843,000 to fight, according to the National Interagency Coordination Center situation report.
The National Weather Service is reporting that it hit 30 degrees in Minden this morning, though it was above freezing in higher places in the Carson Valley, with 34 degrees in Fish Springs and Genoa. Today’s forecast is for a high temperature of 68 degrees under sunny skies, with an east wind of 5-10 mph.
