Tahoe Youth & Family receives grant

Tahoe Youth & Family Services would like to express our most sincere gratitude for the $10,000 grant for FY 2012-13 from the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. These funds will support children, youth, families and adult individuals in need of education, counseling or support services. TYFS is a non-profit organization that has been serving youth and families in the South Lake Tahoe community since 1971 and the Douglas County, Nevada area since 2005. Our mission is to promote the healthy development of children, youth, and families by providing counseling, education and support programs. We offer services in the areas of family counseling, substance abuse treatment services, mentoring and support services.
This significant grant award will allow TYFS to continue delivering the following Douglas County outcomes in 2013 (following stats from FY 2011-12):
TYFS counted 2,501 visits by youth at the Gardnerville drop in center located in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
TYFS Outreach Staff made 1,267 contacts with youth during outreach at each Douglas County Middle and High Schools.
TYFS Outreach Staff made 3,355 contacts with youth during outreach conducted in the community.
TYFS Staff conducted 20 formal presentations to youth at schools, reaching 218 students.
TYFS Staff facilitated 48 youth development activities for 377 youth including youth forums, support groups and facilitated events.
TYFS provided youth who expressed hunger needs in Douglas County with 48 backpacks of food to take home on the weekends.
At the drop in center, TYFS handed out 2,345 food items over 12 months.
197 items of clothing, shoes, jackets were given to local homeless and low-income youth
