Tahoe Rim Trail finds new digs
October 7, 2013
More than 175 people helped the Tahoe Rim Trail Association celebrate the move to their new home on Sept. 26 with an open house.
Attendees were offered a tour of the new facilities located at 128 Market St. Suite 3E, in Stateline.
“This new space fits our needs perfectly.” said Executive Director Mary Bennington. “It provides plenty of room for our staff, a professional and inviting meeting room and a huge new storage area where we can finally have all our gear, tools and equipment for our programs in one place.”
During the event, four dirty and tired hikers who’d just completed the trail walked in and were surprised to find the celebration in full swing.
They were inducted into the 165-mile club.
One of the hikers, Whitney “Allgood” La Ruffa, president of the American Long Distance Hiking Association-West sent a note to the association after getting home.
“I recently spent a week thru-hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail with three of my fellow long distance hiking friends,” he said. “I have hiked over 7,000 miles around the U.S. from the Appalachian Trail to the John Muir Trail and myriad others from coast to coast. The Tahoe Rim Trail is by far one of the nicest trails I have ever experienced. This trail is by far the best maintained trail I have ever hiked, the signage was outstanding, and just enough to keep you on track but not overwhelming where you felt like you were on a tourist trail at a park. This trail offers it all from granite peaks with sweeping views to rich pine forest and small Alpine lakes. This an absolute gem in our national trail system and I cannot recommend this trail enough to anyone with a limited amount of time who wants to get a thru-hike in during the year.”
